The 'Big Rocks' of Cornerstone

Trinity-centred The Trinitarian God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is eternal, relational and loving. This implies that people made in His image are also meant to be in relationship with Him and loving toward one another. The Christian life, rather than an individualistic journey, is meant to be lived in communion with God and in community with a body of believers who are to encourage one another in growth and fellowship.
Bible-based The Bible (God’s self-revelation) is perfect and eternal. We believe the Bible is ‘living and active’ and ‘discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart’ (Hebrews 4:12).  We want our preaching, teaching, counsel and lives to be heart focused and grounded on eternal truth not human opinions, preferences or trends. We believe that in Scripture God ‘has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness’ (2 Peter 1:3).
Gospel-absorbed The Gospel (Jesus’ death in our place; His resurrection to save us by grace alone through faith alone) is all-absorbing. We see the Gospel as the Good News. Not only does it bring us into right relationship with God, it is the basis for all our life with Him and for all our relationships with others.
Growth-focused The Christian life is not meant to be stagnant but vital and growing. Growth flows from a heart that has been changed and is being changed, not from external conformity to a set of rules. Church leaders have a responsibility to ‘present everyone mature in Christ’ (Colossians 1:28) and to ‘equip the saints for the work of the ministry’ (Ephesians 4:12). Church members have a responsibility to ‘consider how to stir up one another to love and good works’ (Hebrews 10:24). Husbands have a responsibility to their wives to ‘sanctify and cleanse’ them (Ephesians 5:26) and to their children to ‘bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord’ (Ephesians 6:4).
Mission-minded Because God so loved His Son, He chose to bring many sons and daughters to Himself. His command (Matthew 28:19-20) and His spreading love that we have experienced compel us to seek to bring others to Christ both in our local community and, as we are able, around the world.
