New to Church?
We know that going to a new place can sometimes be intimidating so we want to do everything we can to make your visit a positive one. Whether you’re coming back to church or you’re trying it out for the first time, we know it's a big step. Our prayer is that you would feel welcome and find a new home with us at Cornerstone Church. Here is a list of some of the frequently asked questions you might have:
Who comes to Cornerstone Church? Anyone and everyone are more than welcome. Cornerstone has a mixed congregation who come together from a variety of backgrounds and traditions. What happens at your services? While there are specific things we do at special times of the year (like Christmas or Easter), our Sunday services are focused on worship with practical messages from God's Word, the Bible. Children are catered for in the crèche and Junior Church. Refreshments are served at the end of every service to allow further discussion and catch-up with friends. Services tend to include the following:
During a normal service we play a lot of “stand up sit down”. If you are not sure what to do, just follow what everyone else is doing. Often the leader will guide the congregation with instructions throughout the service. If you feel you are unable to stand, don’t worry, there are often other people sitting. The 10:00am service is normally about an hour and fifteen minutes. Do you collect money during the service? No. We do not expect visitors to give. There is a collection box to the rear of the church if you feel you wish to give, but don’t feel pressured into putting anything in. We believe that giving our money to God's work in this Church is an act of worship and our members freely give to support our church. Will I be asked to do anything during the service? No, nothing to fear! Whilst a number of people from the congregation play an active role in our services, we want Cornerstone to be as safe and as unthreatening a place as possible, so you will never be asked to do anything you do not want to do. Absolutely! Children's ministry is a big part of our work at Cornerstone. We offer a crèche. We also run a Junior Church group, specifically focused on meeting the needs of these children. The children learn about a wide range of Bible stories, undertaking various crafts and activities. The age range catered for at present is for Primary aged children. After initially joining the adults for singing and prayer, the children head off to attend their own Junior Church! All volunteers working with children have a current DBS (formerly CRB) certificate and we adhere to an up-to-date child protection policy. The simple answer is, there is no dress code - we want you to feel comfortable, so just come as you are! We have ample car parking available within Great Western Academy. Details on how to find us are on our “Where We Meet” page. If you have any other questions you may want answering or would like to talk to someone, please come along to one of our services or contact us via the information on our “Contact Us” page. |
